RESOLUTION SIGNING EVENT – FORMATION OF THE SAN DIEGO DESAL PARTNERS ON THE CARLSBAD DESALINATION PROJECT

Members of the Governing Board met at the Sweetwater Authority Administration Building Board Room at 10:00 a.m. Present were Directors Beauchamp, Doud, Pocklington, and Thomas. Absent were Directors Alkire, Morrison, and Welsh. Staff members present were General Manager Bostad, Operations Manager Rogers, Deputy Operations Manager/Director of Engineering Smyth, Engineering Manager Garrod, Information Systems Director Silva, Information Systems Supervisor Kasner, Communications Coordinator King, Communications Specialist Filippi, and Education Specialist Diaz. Also present was Legal Counsel Cowett.

Representatives from Sweetwater Authority, Carlsbad Municipal Water District, Valley Center Municipal Water District, Rincon del Diablo Municipal Water District, Rainbow Municipal Water District, Vallecitos Water District, Santa Fe Irrigation District, and Olivenhain Municipal Water District gathered for a resolution signing ceremony and to announce the formation of the San Diego Desal Partners, which was formed to help ensure the success of the Carlsbad Desalination Project. These eight public water agencies have signed 30-year contracts to purchase water from the Carlsbad Facility. Peter MacLaggan, Senior Vice President of Poseidon Resources Corporation, and representatives of the eight agencies spoke briefly on the importance of the project, which will improve water supply reliability in the San Diego region through reduced dependence on imported water. The designated representatives then signed a joint resolution and answered questions from the media. The meeting ended at 10:55 a.m.
