FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SWEETWATER AUTHORITY FACILITY DEDICATION AND OPEN HOUSE, CHULA VISTA

Sweetwater Authority will host a formal dedication and ribbon-cutting for its Richard A. Reynolds Groundwater Demineralization Facility at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 8, at 3066 N. Second Avenue (near Sweetwater Road), Chula Vista.

The new facility will produce four million gallons of drinking water daily. Brackish water from the Sweetwater River Alluvium, a shallow aquifer, and from the San Diego Formation will be treated with reverse osmosis and disinfected with chloramine at the facility.

A public open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 1999.

Editors’ Note: Sweetwater Authority, a public agency, provides drinking water to 175,000 residents of Chula Vista, National City and Bonita, California. The Reynolds Facility will produce 20 percent of the daily water demands for Authority customers, raising local water supplies for the agency to 70 percent of average demand. Sweetwater Authority also owns and operates Sweetwater Reservoir in Spring Valley, Loveland Reservoir near Alpine, and two high-quality groundwater wells in National City.

Richard A. Reynolds, Sweetwater Authority general manager and certified professional engineer, has worked in the water industry for over 30 years. The Governing Board of the Authority will dedicate the facility as follows, "IN HONOR OF RICHARD A. REYNOLDS, GENERAL MANAGER (1993-1999), WHOSE LEADERSHIP AND FORESIGHT WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CREATION OF THIS FACILITY AND FOR HELPING TO ASSURE A LONG-TERM, MORE RELIABLE WATER SUPPLY FOR THE CUSTOMERS OF SWEETWATER AUTHORITY."

(Reynolds will retire from Sweetwater Authority in December.)
