FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WATER BOARD ENDORSES PROPOSITION 13

The Governing Board of Sweetwater Authority has unanimously adopted a resolution in support of Ballot Proposition 13, the Safe Drinking Water, Clean Water, Watershed Protection and Flood Protection Act, stating the bond issue "represents an urgently needed investment of $1.97 billion in the water infrastructure of California."

Specific benefits of the Proposition, according to the resolution, are one million additional acre-feet of water (enough for two million families) during dry years, improvements to water quality and core water supplies in the San Francisco-San Joaquin Bay-Delta, and a variety of clean water, watershed, flood protection and water supply improvement programs that will help prepare California for an increase of 15 million residents by 2020.

Sweetwater Authority, a public agency, provides drinking water to more than 175,000 residents of Chula Vista, National City and Bonita. Local residents who would like to learn more about Proposition 13 may visit San Diego County Water Authority or contact the Authority's Communications Office.
