press releaseMay, 2000 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RESERVOIR CLOSED MAY 9-11 Alpine - Loveland Reservoir will be closed to public access from May 9 - 12 so workers may remove large boulders which threaten to fall on fishers and hikers. The boulders will be broken down into smaller pieces by blasting, said officials of Sweetwater Authority, the public water agency which owns Loveland Reservoir. Staff members at the reservoir have identified several boulders which could fall or roll down to public areas used for fishing or access to the reservoir. Gates will be closed during the blasting operations, and signs will be posted to warn visitors of the dangers associated with the blasts. Gates may be open from 5 p.m. to sundown, if conditions warrant. Regular fishing hours will resume Saturday, May 13, 2000. Editors’ Notes: Free fishing is offered to the public at Loveland Reservoir through a partnership between Sweetwater Authority and the USDA Forest Service. Fishing licenses are required.
