WATER BOARD ELECTS OFFICERS

The Sweetwater Authority Governing Board unanimously elected new officers at its last meeting in 2001. Chula Vista resident James “Jim” Doud, Sr., director from Division 2 of the South Bay Irrigation District, will serve as Sweetwater Authority Chairman until December 31, 2003. Sue Jarrett, who represents National City on the Board, will be Sweetwater Authority’s Vice-Chairman for the same period.

Doud is a retired senior manufacturing engineer, formerly with Rohr, Inc. He has served on the Board since 1995 and serves as a commissioner on the Association of California Water Agencies Utilities Service Authority. Doud also represents Sweetwater Authority on the Chula Vista InterAgency Water Task Force and the Western Coalition of Arid States, a water agency association.

Jarrett is an adjunct faculty member with National University, a retired National School District elementary school administrator, and a resident of National City. She was appointed to the Board by the National City Mayor and City Council in 1988 and has been subsequently reappointed every four years.

Meetings of the Sweetwater Authority Board are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, at 6 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. respectively, and are open to the public at 505 Garrett Avenue, Chula Vista.

Sweetwater Authority is a public agency formed in 1977 through a joint powers agreement between South Bay Irrigation District and National City to operate the public water system for the area. Directors establish plans and policies to assure a safe, reliable water supply for more than 175,000 residents of Chula Vista, National City and Bonita.
