SALAS APPOINTED TO WATER BOARD

At its board meeting on Friday, December 17, the South Bay Irrigation District (SBID) appointed former Chula Vista councilwoman Mary Salas to represent residents living in SBID Division Four. The Division roughly encompasses the area between C Street and Orange Avenue, and between Fourth Avenue and Hilltop Avenue.

As part of her duties, Salas will also serve on the Governing Board of Sweetwater Authority, a public agency that provides water service to 177,000 residents of National City, Bonita and western and central Chula Vista.

Salas, a life-long resident of Chula Vista, has served the public for many years. In 1991 she was appointed to the Chula Vista Civil Service Commission and in 1993 to the Chula Vista Planning Commission. She served as a councilwoman for the City of Chula Vista from 1996 until December of 2004. In her last year in office at the City, she served as Deputy Mayor.

Regionally, Salas served on the SANDAG Energy Working Committee, the San Diego Metro Commission and the Chula Vista Interagency Water Task Force.

Salas said she looks forward to working with the board to continually make sure that safe, reliable water flows from the tap for generations to come.

Editor's Note: Salas replaces former Director Richard Reynolds, who resigned from the Governing Board in October. She was appointed on December 17 and will serve until the next General Election for the South Bay Irrigation District, which will occur in November of 2006. At that time, a director will be elected to a four-year term.
