Local student Marcos Sainz has been selected to win a $1,000 scholarship in an annual competition hosted by the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) and its affiliates. Sainz was submitted for regional consideration by Sweetwater Authority, which earlier selected him to win its $1,000 local scholarship. Each student in the competition was required to research the purpose of special districts and prepare an essay about their value as a form of local government. In his essay, Sainz stated, “Special districts are renowned for their ability to provide quality services at affordable prices.” Sainz will graduate with a 3.9 GPA. He plans to major in Physics and minor in Music, and hopes to someday work as a physicist. He has earned a Certificate of Academic Excellence, an Outstanding Jazz Musician Award, is a member of the California Scholarship Federation, and Who’s Who Among High School Students. He is a charter member of the National City’s Community Concert Band and is a tutor in National School Districts’ Summer Music Program. Sainz will be honored at a Sweetwater Authority Board Meeting May 26. His regional scholarship was funded by the Water Agencies Association of San Diego County. -END- |
