Local water agencies to host water-saving classes
for landscape professionals

South San Diego County landscapers will have the opportunity to attend a series of free classes offered this fall in Chula Vista. The "Protector del Agua" program is designed to promote water-efficient irrigation practices throughout Southern California.

The Monday evening classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Parkway Community Center, 373 Park Way, Chula Vista, CA, from October 4 through November 1, 2004.

Each class includes a slide show with lecture and a hands-on opportunity to set irrigation controls and sprinklers. The course begins with basic irrigation principles of the soil-plant-water relationship and ends with irrigation scheduling and maintenance.

Participants will receive a bound handbook and a certificate
of completion at the end of the course. To register for the free program, contact Sandra Lozano at (619) 409-6883; or register online at www.sweetwater.org.

The Protector del Agua classes are hosted by Sweetwater Authority and Otay Water District and are sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
