Sweetwater Authority Board Chairman Bud Pocklington was re-elected to the South Bay Irrigation District board (SBID), and Teresa “Terry” Thomas was newly elected to the SBID board in Tuesday’s election. They will serve on both the SBID and the Sweetwater Authority boards for the next four years. Their terms will begin December 1, 2006.

Also, R. Mitchel “Mitch” Beauchamp, a Sweetwater Authority board member since 2002, was recently re-appointed by the City of National City to serve another four-year term. The Sweetwater Authority governing board is composed of representatives from National City and SBID.

Pocklington has represented SBID Division 1, on the Sweetwater Authority board since 1986. In addition to his duties on the Sweetwater Authority and SBID boards, he has served on the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) board since 1997. In 2004, he was appointed to represent SDCWA on the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) board of directors, based in Los Angeles.

Thomas will represent SBID Division 4 and will take over the seat vacated by Mary Salas, who was elected to the 79th Assembly District. Thomas, a retired microbiology professor from Southwestern College, has lived in Chula Vista for 25 years. She has served on several committees including the Chula Vista Resource Conservation Commission and the Chula Vista General Plan Update Steering Committee.

Mitch Beauchamp, a former National City council member, owns Pacific Southwest Biological Services, Inc., an environmental consulting firm in National City.
