Rogers selected to head Sweetwater Authority
Current General Manager Dennis Bostad to retire in May 2008

CHULA VISTA, CA - At yesterday’s Board meeting, Mark Rogers, Sweetwater Authority’s operations manager, was selected by the Board of Directors to assume the duties of general manager on May 10, 2008, after current manager, Dennis Bostad retires. James Smyth, deputy operations manager and director of engineering, will succeed Rogers as operations manager.

Rogers, who has worked more than 30 years in the water industry, joined Sweetwater Authority in 2001 as business and support services director, and was appointed operations manager in January 2002. He previously served as general manager of the Coronado/Imperial Beach water system, owned and operated by California American Water Company. Rogers is a Hilltop High School and San Diego State University graduate.

Smyth began his career at Sweetwater Authority in 1980 as a junior engineer and became director of engineering in 1994. Last year, he was promoted to deputy operations manager and director of engineering.

Dennis Bostad, a 30-year veteran with the agency, will retire May 9, 2008, after serving as general manager for more than five years. During his career at Sweetwater Authority, Bostad held responsibilities in water treatment, water resources, and endangered species management. He has also been active in the South Bay community and is a past president of the National City Chamber of Commerce.
