how to qualify
1. Complete an application form obtained from Sweetwater Authority or your school counselor, including a list of your community involvement activities. The last line of the application should indicate you are submitting your application via Sweetwater Authority/South Bay Irrigation District.
2. Provide a transcript and current registration information verifying your status as a graduating senior.
3. Compose and include a two-page or less, original, typewritten essay on the
purpose of Special Districts; What do you feel are the benefits
and services of special districts; How do special districts fit into
the California governmental structure; What special districts serve
your area? Format Arial font, 12 point type, 1 inch margins,
with line spacing set to 1 1/2. The statement will be judged on originality. To gather information for your essay on Special Districts, you may wish to:
a) Library/internet research
b) Attend a Special District Board meeting. Sweetwater Authority's Governing Board meets every 2nd Wednesday at 3:30 or 6:00 p.m. Committee meetings are held throughout the business week. Please call the Board Secretary at (619) 420-1413, or go to
the board calendar for specific dates.
c) Conduct local agency interviews.
4. Request and include a letter of recommendation from a high school
faculty member or a professional associate.
5. Include a typewritten personal statement (two pages or less) explaining one or more of the following: why you are applying for this award, why you decided to continue your education, your educational goal, your career goal, personal background and interests.
Format Arial font, 12 point type, 1 inch margins, with line
spacing set to 1 1/2.
