application packageSweetwater Authority offers an annual $1,000 scholarship for students who attend school or reside in the Sweetwater Authority service area. In addition to the local scholarship, winners compete with finalists from other San Diego County special districts for the California Special Districts Association's (CSDA's) regional $1,000 scholarships. Winners are chosen based on the quality of essays prepared by the applicants, as well as academic and service qualifications. Applicants must submit the following documents by February 16, 2007: 1. Completed application form. 2. High School transcript and college registration information. 3. School/Community involvement: 4. A typewritten personal statement (two pages or less. Format Arial Font, 12 point type, with 1 inch margins and line spacing set to 1 ½.) Possible topics include reasons for applying for the scholarship or seeking a higher education, the student's educational/career goals, or personal background and interests. 5. A typewritten essay (two pages or less, Format Arial Font, 12
point type, with 1 inch margins and line spacing set to 1 ½)
about the purpose of special districts: What do you feel are the
benefits and services of special districts; How do special districts
fit into the California governmental structure; What special
districts serve your area? The essay will be judged on
originality and demonstrated understanding of the subject matter.
Applicants are encouraged to research the topic through one or more of
the following methods: Students may obtain an application package through www.sweetwater.org, their school's Scholarship Counselor, or Melody Diaz at Sweetwater Authority, (619) 409-6722. Completed applications may be delivered to school Scholarship Counselors, or to Melody Diaz, Sweetwater Authority, 505 Garrett Ave., Chula Vista, CA 91910, no later than 5 p.m. February 16, 2007. Applications may also be mailed (postmarked no later than February 16, 2007) to Melody Diaz, Sweetwater Authority, P.O. Box 2328, Chula Vista, CA 91912-2328. A governing board committee will select a Sweetwater Authority
finalist. The finalist will be considered, and regional winners
selected, by a committee formed by the San Diego Chapter of the CSDA. $1000
Scholarship winners selected by the Committee will be honored at a
CSDA dinner meeting the evening of May 17, 2007.
