If you are an owner of a dialysis treatment unit and receive water service from Sweetwater Authority or you receive dialysis treatments from a provider within Sweetwater Authority's service area, our plans to conduct water treatment tests may require you or your provider to take special action.

The test period and protocol have been designed to determine whether chlorine dioxide will be an effective disinfectant and whether it will improve the taste and odor of water produced at the plant. We do not anticipate any residual chlorine dioxide will leave the plant, but expect a residual level of chlorite ion (ClO2-) will be formed as a byproduct of the process. The concentration of chlorite ion is expected to range from 0.2 to 0.8 mg/l.Chloramine residual levels in the distribution system will not be affected.

If you have any medical concerns please contact your physician or your renal dialysis service provider. If you would like additional information or have any questions regarding Sweetwater Authority’s plans, please contact Don Thomson, Water Quality Superintendent, at (619) 409-6802 (email: dthomson@sweetwater.org).
