More on
the 20 Gallon Challenge...
Sweetwater Authority customers are already some of the most
water-efficient residents in San Diego County. Based on average per
capita water use, residents in our service area use about 124
gallons per day per person vs. the approximate 180 gallons for the
San Diego region. We applaud the water conservation efforts of our
customers and encourage you to continue your water-efficient
practices. You may find even more ways to save water at the links
provided here.
Sweetwater Authority wants you to know we are also doing our part to
continue making investments in drought-resistant local water
resources. Did you know that Sweetwater Authority is considered to
have the most reliable water resources of any district in the San
Diego region? With its surface water, wells and groundwater
desalination capabilities, about 25 percent of Sweetwater Authority
water supply sources are drought-resistant. By 2011, with added
wells, increased groundwater desalination, and a seawater
desalination purchase agreement, Sweetwater Authority plans for
about 55 percent drought-resistant supplies.
Living in this region calls for maximum water-efficiency of its
citizens on an ongoing basis, and water supply management that
continues to explore new opportunities to increase water reliability
to ensure our quality of life. We think we’ve both done a great job
so far, if we do say so. But in times like these, we’re sometimes
asked to pinch back on usage a bit more; so if you can do so, it
would be most appreciated.
