Competition Rules

  1. Eligibility: The logo competition is available to any person who lives or owns a business in South Bay Water’s service area. Participants can verify address eligibility at www.sweetwater.org/division.
    1. Employees and Governing Board members of Sweetwater Authority and their relatives are not eligible to participate.
    2. A parent or guardian will be required to sign an additional form for any participant under 18 years of age.
  2. Submissions: 
    1. Designs must be original and previously unpublished and not AI generated.
    2. Each participant may submit up to three entries.
    3. Participants must submit a completed and signed entry form and consent form for each submission.
    4. Submissions should be in high-resolution. Digital format (PDF) is preferred. Hand-drawn concepts may be submitted, and if selected, would be digitized. Participants may submit their designs through the South Bay Water webpage at www.southbaywater.org. Hard copy submissions may be mailed or delivered to the Sweetwater Authority Administration Office at 505 Garrett Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91910. All submissions must be received before the competition deadline.
    5. Each submission must include a color (3 color maximum) and black & white version of the design.
    6. Each submission must include a short description as to how the logo relates to the service provided by South Bay Water.
  3. Theme: Designs should creatively reflect South Bay Water’s connection to the community, and/or the vital service the district provides.
  4. Deadline: Submissions must be received no later than 5 p.m. on August 28, 2024.
  5. Judging: Entries will be evaluated by a committee appointed by South Bay Water, with final selection made by the South Bay Water Board of Directors. Judging will be based on creativity, originality, relevance to the theme, and overall visual impact.
  6. Winner Selection: The winning design will be selected by the South Bay Water Board of Directors, and the decision will be final. The judging committee or Board may consider input from the community as part of the judging process. The committee or Board hold no requirement to choose a winning entry or award a prize if no submission is selected.
  7. Prize: The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000. Two additional participants will receive honorary mention prizes of $250 each.  No substitutions or cash equivalents will be offered.
  8. Ownership: By submitting an entry, participants grant South Bay Water the sole right to use, reproduce, modify, and distribute the design for promotional purposes.
    1. Upon selection of the winning entry, the participant will provide South Bay Water with the native design files of the logo, if applicable.
  9. Notification: The winner and honorary mentions will be notified via email or phone within eight weeks of the competition deadline.
  10. Publicity: By accepting the prize, the winner and honorary mentions agree to participate in publicity efforts related to the competition, including but not limited to interviews, photographs, and social media promotion.
