The Sweetwater Authority (Authority) Governing Board voted and approved capacity fees for the South Bay Gaylord Pacific Hotel and Convention Center at its January 12 meeting. This is a significant step in moving to the next phase of the permitting process and progress in the Chula Vista Bayfront Development project.
Capacity fees are an industry-standard charge for new development projects, and are intended to help water utilities recover the costs of water distribution infrastructure construction and maintenance needed to meet customers’ current and future water needs.
“The Authority is proud to provide safe and reliable water to the thriving South County community,” said Board Chair Alejandra Sotelo-Solis. “Our Board is continually looking for ways to better serve the community, including ways to partner with developers to build the infrastructure needed to keep South County vibrant.”
The Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan (CVBMP) is a master planning effort by joint stakeholders, including the Port of San Diego, the City of Chula Vista, and Pacifica Companies. The purpose of the project is to implement a master plan that transforms approximately 535 acres of the Chula Vista waterfront into a world-class destination for local residents and visitors. The Authority has been an active participant in the CVBMP and recently worked with the Sun Outdoors RV resort to ensure that they had adequate water supply for their new facility.
