[ARCHIVED] Customers are encouraged to continue to use water wisely

Sweetwater Authority (Authority) continues to encourage customers to use water wisely and efficiently. On March 28, Governor Newsom called upon water agencies in California to activate their Drought Response Plans to higher levels of water restrictions to mitigate concerns of the long-term drought impacting our state. Because of the hard work and water efficient lifestyle that Authority customers have always embraced, we are already meeting the 20 percent water reduction associated with higher levels of the Drought Response Plan.

“The Authority’s long-term investments in local water supplies are continuing to show value for our community,” said Chair Alejandra Sotelo-Solis. “The Governing Board would like to thank Authority customers for their continued efforts to use water efficiently and wisely. Paired with our diverse local water supply, our service area continues to use the least amount of water of any other agency in San Diego County and we are proud of our customers.”

Authority customers are urged to continually look to the Authority for drought information, because every agency will be working directly with its customers to implement the guidelines that best suit their individual needs.

In 2008, the Authority adopted a four-level Drought Response Plan (DRP). In June 2021, in compliance with Water Code, the Authority updated its Urban Water Management Plan by preparing and adopting a Water Shortage Contingency Plan (WSCP). The DRP was amended in June 2021 to be consistent with the WSCP. The Authority Governing Board re-confirmed the Boards Status in Level 1 in January of 2022.
