On June 8, the Governing Board (Board) of Sweetwater Authority (Authority) voted to implement additional drought measures to encourage additional water conservation. A full list of the demand reduction levels can be found on the Authority’s website at www.sweetwater.org/drought.
On May 24, 2022, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) adopted a new regulation to guide the state in reducing water demand and to improve conservation.
“Our customers have always been water efficient and have done a great job in being mindful about their water usage,” said Board Chair Alejandra Sotelo-Solis. “Our state is in a severe drought, and it is time for all of us to pitch-in and do what we can to be efficient with this precious resource. If you need help, we are here to help you. We encourage our customers to look into our rebate programs, and to take advantage of the free WaterSmart Checkups that we can provide to homes and businesses.”
In 2008, the Authority adopted a four-level Drought Response Plan (DRP). In June 2021, in compliance with Water Code, the Authority updated its Urban Water Management Plan by preparing and adopting a Water Shortage Contingency Plan (WSCP). The DRP was amended in June 2021 to be consistent with the WSCP. The Authority Governing Board re-confirmed Drought Level 1 in January of 2022.
