The Sweetwater Authority (Authority) Governing Board welcomed the Chair of the State Water Resources Control Board, E. Joaquin Esquivel, at the Richard A. Reynolds Groundwater Desalination Facility for a tour on September 29, 2022.
Board members and staff from the Authority and the State Water Resources Control Board toured the award-winning facility and shared meaningful conversation on the efforts for the region to continue to prioritize water affordability and utilize the latest technology to secure reliable local water resources.
“The Authority is grateful for the opportunity to connect with Chair Esquivel,” said Governing Board Chair Alejandra Sotelo-Solis. “As a Board, we have worked hard to continue to prioritize affordability for our ratepayers, and were excited to share our input with the Chair and highlight the Authority’s commitment to local water resources and affordability.”
The Richard A. Reynolds Groundwater Desalination Facility has the capacity to produce up to 10 million gallons of drinking water per day, enough for approximately 18,000 families, and provides Authority customers with about one-third of their annual water supply. The facility is just one component of the Authority’s unique water portfolio, which also includes local surface water, and fresh water wells.
