At its January 19 meeting, the South Bay Irrigation District (SBID) appointed Manny Delgado to represent residents living in SBID Division 3. As part of his duties, Delgado will also serve on the Governing Board of Sweetwater Authority.
Delgado replaces former Director Jose Preciado, who resigned from the seat in November 2022 when he was elected to the City of Chula Vista City Council. He will serve until the next General Election for the South Bay Irrigation District, which will occur on November 5, 2024. At that time, a director will be elected to a four-year term.
Delgado is long time resident of Chula Vista. He currently works for an environmental abatement contractor as a project manager. His impressive resume includes working for a public relations firm on public infrastructure projects in conjunction with SANDAG and local governments. He has also worked as staff for local elected officials and has experience working for the Department of Commerce. His experience in community outreach and policy development at the private and public sectors will serve him well in his role on the board in creating water-related policies.
South Bay Irrigation District was formed as an independent California Special District in 1951 to represent local residents. In 1977, as a result of a public initiative, SBID and National City formed a joint powers public water agency named Sweetwater Authority. Sweetwater Authority manages and operates the water system providing water to National City, western portions of Chula Vista and Bonita, California.
