At its meeting on June 28, the Sweetwater Authority (Authority) Governing Board (Board) approved a $66.9 million budget for fiscal year (FY) 2023-24. The budget allocation highlights the Authority’s commitment to maintaining a reliable and efficient water system, while responding to inflationary pressures, including significant increases in electricity, chemical, and San Diego County Water Authority imported water costs.
The FY 2023-24 Budget reflects increasing emphasis on process improvements, with investments in technology to automate tasks and streamline workflows. This allows for a more efficient and agile workforce that can continue to deliver high-quality services to customers.
The budget also supports investments in water system and supply reliability, including advancements in the protection of existing water pipelines and a new groundwater characterization program to support future development of local water supplies.
“The Board understands the importance of balancing the pressures of increasing external costs while still delivering value to our customers,” said Board Chair Hector Martinez. “The approved budget reflects the Board’s dedication to building an agency that is agile and adaptable in its operations so that we can continue to provide safe and reliable water service to our community, now and in the future.”
