Chula Vista, CA – At last week’s meeting, the Sweetwater Authority (Authority) Governing Board awarded the $1,000 Work for Water Scholarship to David Inchaurregui Jr. of Chula Vista to support his water industry studies.
The Authority’s Governing Board created the Work for Water Scholarship last year with the goal of supporting students who live in the community. With a significant wave of retirements anticipated over the next 5 years, the Board recognized the need to help ensure the next generation of water industry experts is ready for the career opportunities available.
Inchaurregui Jr. is currently attending the Center for Water Studies at Cuyamaca College in pursuit of a career as a water treatment plant operator or laboratory technician. He is also the current President of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Student Chapter at Cuyamaca College. This is the second year Inchaurregui Jr. has received this scholarship.
“Our community is filled with exceptional, bright young people like David, and we created this scholarship to help open doors and provide opportunities to this next generation,” said Board Chair Hector Martinez. “David has shown fantastic initiative and involvement in the water industry already, and we look forward to seeing what positive impact he’ll have on the water industry and his community in the future.”
“It’s an honor to be selected as recipient of this scholarship,” said Inchaurregui Jr. to the Board as he received his award. “I wanted to let you know how amazing it is to be receiving this scholarship. It helps me immensely – it helps pay for my tuition, helps pay for books, helps pay for anything else I need for school.”
The Authority plans to launch the scholarship again in the spring. Additional information is available at www.sweetwater.org/scholarship.
