Chula Vista, CA – On January 14, 2026, the Sweetwater Authority (Authority) Governing Board reconvened for the 2026 term. As their first official act, the board appointed Ditas Yamane and Hector Martinez as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively.
Chair Yamane serves on the City Council for National City, representing District 3. She is the first Asian American to chair the Authority’s Governing Board.
“I am honored to have been appointed by my colleagues to chair the Authority for the 2026 term,” said Chair Yamane. “Under my leadership, the Governing Board remains committed to delivering safe and reliable water at the most affordable rates through sound supply management, full transparency, and careful stewardship of every ratepayer dollar.”
Before the start of the regular board meeting, South Bay Water, also appointed its leadership for the new term. Hector Martinez was named President, and Elizabeth Cox was re-appointed as Vice President.
The Authority’s Governing Board consists of seven members: five directors elected by residents of South Bay Water and two appointed by the Mayor of National City, subject to City Council confirmation.
