[ARCHIVED] SWA awards grants to support water efficiency in South Bay

Succulent close up

The Sweetwater Authority (Authority) Board of Directors presented checks to the City of Chula Vista Office of Sustainability and the Gentry Glen Home Owners Association at its meeting on July 10, 2019. The Authority’s robust water efficiency program helps customers save water and money through grants, rebates and resources.

The City of Chula Vista was awarded $5,000 through the Authority’s Water Efficiency Education Program (WEEP) for the expansion of their NatureScape program, including development of the first program workshop. Initiated in 2006, the NatureScape program guides residents as they transform yards into sustainable, water-saving habitats.

The Authority awarded a second grant of $5,000 to Gentry Glen HOA, through its Savings Through Efficiency Program (STEP). The grant will help offset costs to implement irrigation improvements, which the Authority identified as preventive to water loss during a water-use audit of the property. Free WaterSmart Checkups are available to all Authority customers, both business and residential.
